This short review article summarises insight research since my paper ‘Insight and Psychosis’ was published in 1990. The concept of insight has been operationalised and a number of assessment instruments published. Measures of insight have been correlated with for example cognitive function (including metacognition), mood, decisional making capacity and even brain measures in a rich and growing academic literature. Interventions to improve insight are beginning to be tested in clinical trials
